OUR FAVOURITE EASTER RECIPES

Create Easter memories by making your own eggs!

Now that we’ve been through the non-chocolately gifts, lets admit it, we all consume more chocolate than we need to over Easter, and I’m no egg-ception! But if you’d like to know just how much sugar is in the chocolate eggs you and your family are consuming, why not make your own? Plus getting the kids involved is sure to create some wonderful Easter memories for all of you!

We love this recipe for Homemade Easter Eggs filled with a delicious coconut caramel from our lovely Nursery Collective Kid approved Food Blogger Rachel Cassidy of Little Peeps Eats. She’s also got a wonderful blog about how to deal with the onslaught of chocolate over the Easter period. And if you scroll right to the bottom you can also download her free Easter colouring in placements that come with an Easter joke to add to the fun at your Easter lunch or dinner!

OUR FAVOURITE EASTER PLAY IDEAS FOR LITTLE ONES

Our gorgeous TNC Mama blogger Fi Morrison shares 6 Easter Play Ideas for little ones with us!

Egg shakers (3 months +)

Buy some hollow, plastic eggs (usually from the $2 shop or reject shop) and fill them with some sensory items, such as rice, pasta or lentils. Seal the plastic eggs shut with some glue. When dry, give to your baby to shake and explore the different sounds.

Egg painting (12 months + with assistance)

Place a piece of paper in a large box or tray. Put some blobs of paint on the corner of the paper. Place some mini eggs onto the paper, and shake the box from side to side so the eggs roll around the paint and paper. You’ll create an amazing artwork that will last well beyond Easter! NOTE: Plastic eggs from a $2 shop are ideal, otherwise use the mini foil-covered chocolate eggs. For extra safety, cover them with another layer of foil to make sure they are fully covered, and after the painting leave them to dry. Remove all the foil and make sure no paint is on the eggs. Use non-toxic paint too!

Easter Egg Hunt (12 months +)

Who doesn’t love a good Easter egg hunt? Grab a bucket for your child, hide some eggs around your space (inside or outside, just remember where you hide them if it’s inside!) and let them go for it! If you’re wanting to be mindful of how much chocolate your child has, hide plastic eggs or some laminated printable eggs/chickens/bunnies that can be collected and exchanged for something else. For example, you might tell your little one that if they collect 5 bunnies, they can get one chocolate egg, etc.

Easter play ideas

Easter Small World Play (18 months +)

Start by collecting some basic materials such as mini bunnies and/or chicks (those little cheap yellow chicks would be perfect), mini Easter Eggs, mini baskets, and something for a base (for example, lentils, artificial grass from Bunnings, etc). Put these all together in a shallow tray to create a mini “world” for your child to explore and play with. This is a fun, imaginative way to inspire creative and dramatic play for your little one – if you’re unsure what this looks like, check out #smallworldplay on Instagram!

Easter Egg Sorting (2 years +)

Buy an assortment of Easter eggs for your toddler or preschooler to sort through – by colour, brand, however you like. Provide some sorting bowls and small tongs for your little one, as they practise their fine motor skills to pick up the eggs and sort into separate bowls. This activity can be changed to practise counting, or number and letter recognition (write numbers or letters on the eggs and the bowls, and get your little one to sort into different bowls).

Blown-Out Eggs (4 years + Need steady hands!)

If you have a preschooler with steady, gentle hands (!!), they might like to decorate a blown-out egg (ie. an empty egg shell). Here are some instructions on how to empty the egg, and your little one can paint and decorate the egg as they like. This would also be a great way to make personalised, gorgeous Easter gifts for friends and family.

Five Ways to Make Bath Time Safe and Easy!

5 Ways to Make Bath Time Safe & Easy | The Nursery Collective

by Catherine Nelson-Williams

As parents, we all want ways to make bath time safe and easy – as well as fun and relaxing, right? Whether you’re a Mum of a newborn or toddler (or both!), bath time is a time Mums often dread - and look forward to in equal measure! It signals the end of the day and the impending peace of bed time (on good days when they actually go to sleep quickly, and stay asleep!), but can also coincide with the dreaded witching hour - resulting in crazy, hyper kids and a bathroom resembling a splash pad!

Both my kids loved bath time as newborns, and both also went through a phase of suddenly hating it – a very common occurrence most Mums can relate to. But like all things in early motherhood, phases pass and all we can do try our best to get through these times (sometimes with a glass of wine in hand!) and make our lives as easy as possible! So here are 5 ways to make bath time safe and easy – hopefully these tips will help you enjoy the bath time ritual with your little ones!
