OUR FAVOURITE EASTER RECIPES

Create Easter memories by making your own eggs!

Now that we’ve been through the non-chocolately gifts, lets admit it, we all consume more chocolate than we need to over Easter, and I’m no egg-ception! But if you’d like to know just how much sugar is in the chocolate eggs you and your family are consuming, why not make your own? Plus getting the kids involved is sure to create some wonderful Easter memories for all of you!

We love this recipe for Homemade Easter Eggs filled with a delicious coconut caramel from our lovely Nursery Collective Kid approved Food Blogger Rachel Cassidy of Little Peeps Eats. She’s also got a wonderful blog about how to deal with the onslaught of chocolate over the Easter period. And if you scroll right to the bottom you can also download her free Easter colouring in placements that come with an Easter joke to add to the fun at your Easter lunch or dinner!

OUR FAVOURITE EASTER PLAY IDEAS FOR LITTLE ONES

Our gorgeous TNC Mama blogger Fi Morrison shares 6 Easter Play Ideas for little ones with us!

Egg shakers (3 months +)

Buy some hollow, plastic eggs (usually from the $2 shop or reject shop) and fill them with some sensory items, such as rice, pasta or lentils. Seal the plastic eggs shut with some glue. When dry, give to your baby to shake and explore the different sounds.

Egg painting (12 months + with assistance)

Place a piece of paper in a large box or tray. Put some blobs of paint on the corner of the paper. Place some mini eggs onto the paper, and shake the box from side to side so the eggs roll around the paint and paper. You’ll create an amazing artwork that will last well beyond Easter! NOTE: Plastic eggs from a $2 shop are ideal, otherwise use the mini foil-covered chocolate eggs. For extra safety, cover them with another layer of foil to make sure they are fully covered, and after the painting leave them to dry. Remove all the foil and make sure no paint is on the eggs. Use non-toxic paint too!

Easter Egg Hunt (12 months +)

Who doesn’t love a good Easter egg hunt? Grab a bucket for your child, hide some eggs around your space (inside or outside, just remember where you hide them if it’s inside!) and let them go for it! If you’re wanting to be mindful of how much chocolate your child has, hide plastic eggs or some laminated printable eggs/chickens/bunnies that can be collected and exchanged for something else. For example, you might tell your little one that if they collect 5 bunnies, they can get one chocolate egg, etc.

Easter play ideas

Easter Small World Play (18 months +)

Start by collecting some basic materials such as mini bunnies and/or chicks (those little cheap yellow chicks would be perfect), mini Easter Eggs, mini baskets, and something for a base (for example, lentils, artificial grass from Bunnings, etc). Put these all together in a shallow tray to create a mini “world” for your child to explore and play with. This is a fun, imaginative way to inspire creative and dramatic play for your little one – if you’re unsure what this looks like, check out #smallworldplay on Instagram!

Easter Egg Sorting (2 years +)

Buy an assortment of Easter eggs for your toddler or preschooler to sort through – by colour, brand, however you like. Provide some sorting bowls and small tongs for your little one, as they practise their fine motor skills to pick up the eggs and sort into separate bowls. This activity can be changed to practise counting, or number and letter recognition (write numbers or letters on the eggs and the bowls, and get your little one to sort into different bowls).

Blown-Out Eggs (4 years + Need steady hands!)

If you have a preschooler with steady, gentle hands (!!), they might like to decorate a blown-out egg (ie. an empty egg shell). Here are some instructions on how to empty the egg, and your little one can paint and decorate the egg as they like. This would also be a great way to make personalised, gorgeous Easter gifts for friends and family.

Top Tips to Convert a Nursery Into a Toddler Room

How to Convert a Nursery Into a Toddler Room

with Yvonne K from The Styled Spot

How to convert a nursery into a toddler room - it’s an exciting milestone to reach and yet at the same time it can be a little nerve-wracking! I recently went through this process with my youngest – at 3 years of age it was high time she moved into a big bed. But the thought of my super active daughter not having the safety net of a cot, and being able to just get out of bed when she pleased was enough to make me wish I could hold out a little longer! In the end, the process went very smoothly and now she loves her big girls room!

Today we have the lovely Yvonne from The Styled Spot giving us her top styling tips to convert a nursery into a toddler room, and I think you’ll all agree her daughter Zoe’s room is absolutely exquisite!
I’ll then be sharing my own top tips for helping your little one adjust to their new toddler space.

What clothes do I really need for my new baby?

Clothes I really need for my new baby

by Catherine Nelson-Williams

It’s a question most new mums want to know the answer to – what clothes do I really need for my new baby? I mean, is there anything more adorable than tiny little newborn baby clothes? But the sheer amount of options on offer can be a tad overwhelming! I loved shopping for new baby clothes when I was pregnant with my first, but I have to admit that I did end up with lots of items that were barely used. So, what are the most essential newborn clothing items, and how do you stop yourself from going a little crazy shopping during that wonderful nesting phase?

How To Create The Perfect Nursery

How To Create The Perfect Nursery

by Yvonne K from The Styled Spot

Today we're talking about how to create the perfect nursery! Designing your baby’s nursery is one of the most exciting parts of nesting and welcoming your little one to the world! It certainly was for me – I just loved the entire process. The lovely Yvonne K, Interior Decorator from The Styled Spot, shares her key tips in creating the perfect nursery space.

How to Create the Perfect Nursery

As a new mum (and a second-time mum!) I see designing a nursery room from two different perspectives - the first being as a brand-new room starting from scratch, and the second partially utilising hand me down items for a second/third baby.

Here are my best tips and tricks to tackle both options.

The Breastfeeding Edit

Our Favourite Breastfeeding Products!

* Cover image courtesy of Emily Nelson Art

Today marks the beginning of World Breastfeeding Week (Aug 1-7, 2017) which is aimed at encouraging Mums to breastfeed their children for at least the first six months of their baby’s life. Breastfeeding my babies was one of the most difficult challenges for me as a new Mum, and I was fortunate enough to be able to breastfeed both of them with a lot of help and support! I barely made it to 6 months with my son, but made it to almost a year with my daughter and probably would have fed her for longer if she wasn’t so adamant that she was done (headstrong from the very beginning!).

It’s so important to talk about the fact that breastfeeding doesn’t come naturally to every Mum and that it can be incredibly hard in the early days – but, with the right information and support systems in place, most mums can successfully breastfeed. Read about my breastfeeding journey here plus some fabulous Breastfeeding tips from Jessica McCarroll at First in Breast Dressed. If you’re struggling in your feeding journey, please reach out to a Lactation consultant, or pop over to our Facebook support Group FIND YOUR VILLAGE – our lovely group of Mums would love to support you!

In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week and to support all of our Breastfeeding Mamas, this Edit is all about sharing our favourite Breast-feeding friendly products from our wonderful Nursery Collective boutiques and services - and as always, some fantastic, exclusive offers!

Mothers Day Edit

By Fi Morrison

This year is my very first Mother’s Day and I have to be honest, I’m pretty darn excited. Not completely for selfish reasons (although, which mum doesn’t like to have their ONE day of pampering a year?!). I am excited about celebrating almost a year of starting my motherhood journey, and spending time being loved and appreciated by my son (and husband). And as this is our one allocated day of the year to be a little bit spoilt, how can we not take this opportunity to find some amazing Mother’s Day gifts for ourselves (unless you are one of the lucky mums whose husband is a good gift giver… anyone?!). So if you’re looking to give hubby (and your kids) a nudge in the right direction, or find something for your own Mum, make sure you check out this brilliant range of gifts from our Mother’s Day Edit! - Love, Fi xxx
